Beer Terms: Attenuation

Beer Terms from High Octane Growler

We’ve started with the letter A because, we’re obsessive. And because starting with the letter B would deny us the opportunity to define the word “alcohol.”

Attenuation: The extent to which yeast consumes fermentable sugars, thereby converting them into alcohol and carbon dioxide. In physics, this means the gradual loss in intensity of any kind of flux through a medium.

And if you thought of Doc Brown from Back to the Future when you heard the word flux, award yourself five extra points. Six extra if you visualized a crystal ball when you saw the word medium.

Now drink your beer and show your work. See you next week.
